Chesapeake Virginia Real Estate

Chesapeake

Chesapeake is a diverse city of 222,900 people and consists of sprawling suburbs, an abundance of shopping areas, as well as many square miles of protected farmland, forests, and wetlands including a substantial portion of the Great Dismal Swamp. Chesapeake was formed in 1963 by a consolidation of the City of South Norfolk with the former Norfolk County, which dated to 1691.

Chesapeake is the second-largest city by land area in Virginia extending all the way from the rural border with North Carolina to the harbor area of Hampton Roads adjacent to the cities of Norfolk and Portsmouth. Located on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and part of South Hampton Roads, Chesapeake has miles of waterfront industrial, commercial and residential property. It is currently the third largest city in Virginia in terms of population.

Chesapeake real estate has grown by leaps and bounds in the past 15 years with new construction popping up everywhere. Known mostly as a bedroom community, its roots are firmly planted in the family. Its many attractions include several city parks, golf courses, a planetarium, many nature trails and outstanding schools.
